- What is your company’s mission?
-
At EDB, we believe in the open source software movement, and in the importance of understanding customer needs to deliver amazing technologies. Our mission is to enable businesses and government organizations everywhere to reliably and securely harness the power of Postgres as they help shape the future of its direction. We drive innovation with enterprise-class software and services while envisioning a world where data, through open source, puts power in the hands of everyone. EDB does the heavy lifting, to make difficult, seemingly impossible things happen, and empower enterprises to innovate and accelerate their open source transformations.
- What is your PostgreSQL centered product and what makes it unique?
-
With our technology, security, tools and support, companies and governmental organizations have access to the world’s top PostgreSQL experts. We offer fully-managed and self-managed PostgreSQL, enterprise-grade solutions, Postgres for Kubernetes, as well as other services and trainings to our global customers. We are experts for migration from Oracle, ensuring reliability, high availability, security, and privacy. To sum it up, our products enable customers to harness the power of Postgres while we take on the heavy lifting for them.
- Which of your company's contributions to the PostgreSQL Project are you most proud of?
-
We have been major contributors to PostgreSQL since the beginning up until the most recent releases, and we are proud to call thousands of boundary pushing customers our partners. As we continue to be dedicated to the project, it is challenging to pinpoint a specific standout when it comes to delivered output, as it almost feels like choosing your favorite child. However, our work on parallel query as well as the implementation of the merge command are arguably up there when it comes to our most remarkable contributions.
- In which areas do you expect PostgreSQL to grow most and how does your company contribute to and benefit from that growth?
-
Based on our experience in the field, talking especially to enterprise customers, we have found that they specifically value scalability and performance when it comes to PostgreSQL. System downtime is a significant factor for loss of revenue, so ensuring high availability and optimal performance at all times is key for business continuity. Customers need their database to be able to grow with them. So it was only natural that we have made performance and scalability our long term focus as we believe that these are major growth areas for PostgreSQL.
